Ignorance betrays Romanian presidency

A terrible way to undermine one’s President is to demonstrate a clear lack of sophistication in common communication mediums.

Perhaps you’ve heard of the Internet. Possibly even the Web. Fairly common these days, I’d say.

Politicians rely on rapid and on-message agitprop to be delivered to the target audience(s) in a reliable fashion such that the (mis)information takes root or engenders a desired effect.

It’s probably a good guess to say no one reads this blog any more. Rightly so; there hasn’t been anything to read here for blog-eons. And I’d wager that even if there are a few last holdouts, they may not have read my previous discussion about the systemic ignorance of Romanian Web server administrators.

A while back, I opined with incredulity about the pervasive Romanian failure to properly configure something as mind-numbingly simple yet as mission-critical as a Web server. And now it’s come into the spotlight by embarrassing Preşedintele României Traian Băsescu on the international stage.

As trumpted by JurnalismOnline, it seems the Web site for the Romanian Presidency is run by an ignorant admin who clearly is unable to comprehend how to perform his or her job.

Unless it’s a PSD operative trying to subvert PD-L objectives… heh.

Romanian President hires incompetent IT staff

This is the moment where I burst forth into involuntary cackling, upsetting all around me into believing I’ve gone mad. But I haven’t. The insane asylum is connect by PRI to Cotroceni.

The fools!

(Hat tip to Monsoux for bringing this gem of hilarity to my attention.)

Are not used to this sort of things already? A lot of Romanians take Romania with a grain of salt, but maybe it’s just the people themselves that should be taken with the salt. The people making the presidency.com should be taken with a lot of salt!

I would question whether it is/ever was a legitimate web site.

http://presidency.ro/ is listed as being administered by http://www.rotld.ro – INSTITUTUL NAŢIONAL DE CERCETARE-DEZVOLTARE ÎN INFORMATICĂ.

They may be somebody who just gang-registers domain names and sits on them, hoping to sell them later. Maybe the Romanian government isn’t biting.

    John

Toss a quick www in front of the domain. In any event, it has been my understanding for some years that this is, in fact, an official site of the Romanian president. Never did like the name and am guessing it’s partly what causes the gut reaction to suspect it.

Heyy,, it’s good you haven’t been in Brasov this last months… we didnt have running hot water for 4 month and 1 week thanks to orange CET :(( Romania the land of only one reasonable choice: run as far away possible

@ Romerican, @ John USA: it’s not ‘an’ official site, it’s ‘the’ official site of the Romanian presidency. As I explained to John when he left the same message on my blog, the institute he mentions plays the role of the official registrar for the .ro domain, and ROTLD comes from Romanian Top Level Domain. So rotld.ro is actually the website of the registrar.

    Apparently they heard you. :D

Bradutz & C.O. – I’m very pleased to see your names again. Mulţumesc. Maybe I ought to write more.

  8. Romer!can Says:

Mihai – Ignore my smug grin as I extend my condolences to you for having to put up with yet more ineptitude from CET whose homepage prominently features our favorite hollow politician George Scripcaru whom we look forward to his falling from grace so that he might take his rightful place among the caravan of faceless powerhungry toads from centuries past. Four months of no hot water is insane and a free people would probably revolt. Chew on that a bit.
