Movie script tension

Surrounded by bloc apartments, I sometimes wonder what in the world some people are doing. In the US, it would be none of my business. Here, it’s just a morbid curiosity.

I lived in Romania for a few years in the mid 90′s. I always wondered what average Romanians did in their own apartments. Whenever I would visit with people, it was like “American hang-out night” and probably not representative of an average night at home. Great website by the way…Your observations about Romania(ians) are dead on. While living there, I actually had some “official” stamps made to help get things done. It seems like the mantra of Romanian bureaucracy is “Daca n-are stampila, nu E bun” (It’s no goodif it doesn’t have a stamp).

    numai bine…

Cory – Welcome to the show. From what I gather, most Romanians yell at each other whenever someone ‘new’ comes home (from work, most often) and then settle down for a lot of television. But I’m just judging by the sounds emanating from the majority of my past neighbors.

I think I know what you mean by American hang-out night. At the beginning, that atmosphere was fun and comfortable. Then for a long time, I always I felt like I was missing out on “genuine experience” just simply by being American and that changing the dynamics. Eventually, I ignored the whole thing and just enjoyed being around whomever under whatever conditions.

    *stamp* Hai…

John – Actually, I picture you as being more the type behind the lens watching the strange apartment. Or perhaps more poignantly, the lens were really a scope.

Monica – Haha, that was my very first thought, actually!

Hell, no, silence of the lambs! While that is far worse than my mother’s way of arranging things, she always has a taste for keeping old stuff in the house, because “you’ll never know”. Therefore, she likes to throw away useful things like bills that have not yet been paid or things that have no use for others, because she only likes to have her plastic flowers, paintings (no Rembrandt or anything like that) all over the walls, old toys and clothes that nobody wore for years. The picture above makes me think of a sado maso or just someone who is in the carpentry business. I will suggest my mom to open a second hand store.

Hrm. That pic triggers trauma from unsettling views elsewhere in the Balkans from almost 1.5 years ago…

    ;)
