damn that curent!!!…..shudder yur windows else perish!!!

  2. lucian Says:

is the ‘curent’ really a romanian-only cultural and medical phenomenon?

  3. prejmerlove Says:

currents are the root of all evil and plauge! nevermind if it’s the middle of june and you’re stuffed in a minibus with 22 people keep the windows closed or die!

  4. Romer!can Says:

Lucian – Almost. While the Bulgarians have some cultural fear of wind, it is far less pronounced. And the fears of wind in Western Asia are mostly a remnant of history. In my experience, it is only Romania which has a widespread and active fear of curentul to the point where doctors in hospitals –today– explain to patients that the wind is the cause of the medical problems.

oh no… they are afraid of the curent in moldova, ukraine, georgia, azerbaijan, turkey and, i’m told, macedonia and albania altho it sort of fizzles about there. it’s just that romanians seem to have developed their fear of curent to a fine – dare i say it? – art.

only in ro will you suffer a summer maxi taxi from bucharest to constanta with all the windows tightly sealed. only in ro will you find yourself wrestling with an old woman to keep the window open in your train compartment. only in ro will an otherwise intelligent and self-respecting person tell you their kidneys hurt because of the curent.

everyone else seems to think they’ll just get sick – like with a cold.

interesting to note – these are the same countries where people appear to believe woman’s ovaries will freeze if she sits on cold concrete or marble. oh PLEASE! if birth control were only that easy!!!

  6. Matthew Says:

I guess this is true and while I did experience some mamaligagirl moments, I had some well ventilated rides as well… depended on crowd I guess.

  7. Heather Says:

It was all I could do to convince my doamna prietene de magazin that my ovarian cyst that I had to go back to the states to get operated on was NOT the result of my walking barefoot….seeing as she still zips my jacket up for me every time i leave her store & stares woefully at my naked toes whenever I wear sandals… i just don’t think it worked. *sigh*
