Make it a point to go watch

If you’re an American, I feel compelled to strongly insist you make an effort to see the upcoming documentary movie SiCKO which comes out in U.S. theatres on June 29th.

Do yourself a favor and go watch the film for yourself.

You can ignore the breathless opinions of those who haven’t seen the film, skip over reviews by professional critics, avoid the partisan firebreathing blogs of zealots, and tune out the hyperactive opinion of TV’s talking heads.

Although everyone from Fox News to Daily Kos is very positive about Sicko, the fact remains that anyone’s pre-packaged agenda is unnecessary — whether they think the documentary is good, bad, or mixed.

You’ve got a brain, right? You don’t need anyone else to tell you what to think. Or how to think it. See the movie on your own terms.

I just finished seeing it. Personally, I think you’ll be profoundly moved.

Shocked.

Of course, if you can’t wait two weeks, if you can’t afford to go, if you’re Romanian, if you enjoy watching at home, or just don’t feel like paying, then can always join the thousands of other people in the torrent.

Yay! SiCKO is MM at his best. Always will enjoy his movies, always will see them no matter what. I remember I was in Sweden when F-911 was playing. I had to split my group and leave alone the next flight home just to catch the movie. Lucky me it was only subtitled. My swedish is bs. :-)
Anyway, yes. People all around the wwworld, see all Michael Moore’s films! Especially readers of this blogus ;-)

It’s funny you mention that, I just watched it last night. I was telling my buddy about the Romerican and how he’s a smart bastard for jumping ship. Any chance you have a spare bedroom? j/k, hahahaha.

picsel – Welcome to the show. To be clear, I don’t really much care whether or not people saw the previous films or if they like/hate Michael. I think this particular film stands on its’ own two legs and should be seen in such a manner.

xamox – For you? Hell, yes. C’mon doooooown… Bob, tell ‘im what he’s won…

Oh, I loved it. I probably wouldn’t have watched it if you had not recommended it, because I didn’t like Farenheit 9/11.

    America is scary.

  5. Romer!can Says:

Aye, right you are, matey. Congrabulashuns on buckin the trends. Arrgh!

  6. stingo Says:

God, I sounded so anti-American. Truth is, Michael Moore makes you feel happy and priviledged that you are not living in America. I should have said “Michael Moore’s America is scary”.

  7. Romer!can Says:

Be that as it may, I don’t agree you were even coming close to the border of anti-Americanism in any way, shape, or form. I believe the film points out some things Americans should take under consideration in a deep and meaningful way.

Michel is a highly charged figure. Some love and some hate. There’s a lot of vocal opinions about it. Frankly, I don’t much care about Michael in this instance. What I do care about is what this film has to say and what it could very well do to wake our sleeping nation up, on this one issue.

Very interesting – I’m grabbing. I’ll let you know what I thought when I get time to sit and watch it.

BTW, if you’re still up for some schedule-matching, shoot me an e-mail.

  9. Romer!can Says:

Definitely. I’ll shoot you an email. Hope you’re enjoying your trip and I look forward to linking up.

So…thanks for the link. I now have decided to get off my ass and process my Canadian citizenship(I’m half Canadian 7 entitled). We really don’t want to end up old and homeless due to the unfortunate American neglect of the hippocratic oath…seems appropriately named after watching that film huh?
What ever happened to the “calling” of becoming a doctor to help people anyway? It used to be that doctors felt they had an internal need to help people…now, it’s become a doctor get rich…..marry a doctor, so you’ll be rich…I in no way consider myself an overly emotional person, but, while watching this film, and thinking of my own parents, It brought a teer to my eye to see how some people end up in our system.

    I am ACTUALLY

going to write letters and be someone who at least speaks up….I can only hope others will do the same.
I for one will be watching for the hmo stocks to drop after june 29th!

I’m glad to see another person taking action. You set an example for others, Ron.

    Hi Romerican!
Funny to see immigration reversed! I am a Romanian living in Portland, OR. Can’t wait to see Sicko! I have insurance through my wife’s job which sucks financially. But mainly I use the “United Medical Plan” – as in round trip with United to Romania for anything major and expensive! Pull a wisdom tooth for $5 in RO anyone?
    Keep up the good work!

  14. Andy Mascas Says:

I would have to say that I was pleasantly surprised with Sicko (I can’t say the same about the other Moore films). I grew up in Romania, up until I was 16 and then I moved to America with my folks, I must say that the entire social system in the United States is a joke, an absolute joke. I am curerntly serving in the US Air Force and we’re supposed to get “top-notch” healthcare….don’t even get me started on that one…That’s probably why I will move back to Europe somewhere after my enlistment expires next year in June. Say, Romer!can, I’m travelling through Europe and I’ll also be in Romania from the 16th-27th of August, do you need anything from here, I’ll be glad to help if you do. Let me know, Andy

  15. Romer!can Says:

Andy, welcome to the show! The health care may be inadequate, but don’t overlook the fact that risking your life earns you the deep discounts available at the PX on base. :D That’s a kind offer of you and I’ll think it over (probably get back to you in an upcoming post as well).
