Eventful Absences
Greetings, all and sundry.
Things have been rather topsy turvy since transplanting myself to Bucureşti. I hope you’ll find a little room for forgiveness. I don’t normally like to have so much dust collect on ye olde blog.
It’s been driven by a chain of events, mostly involving an unwelcome cocktail of illnesses. Rather than dramatically tell you how close I came to dying, we’ll just summarize things as I’ve been dragged down by an unusually righteous fever which gave way to substantially harsh allergy before trading me to a rough bout of literally vertigo-inducing infection for an extended period of time.
That happy trail knocked me out for most of the month of May, but I stabilized just in time to receive some important guests from overseas and lead a short bit of travel across parts of Romania. Of course, the very day after being abandoned by said VIPs, I fell violently ill with… well, you aren’t interested in those details. Trust me.
As this unprecedented assault by a series of medical demons began to fade away, I received an unsoliticed offer for an opportunity back in the United States.
That threw me for a loop.
So, during the past week, I’ve been engaging in a round of give-and-take negotiations which would have me shipped back to Texas. It’s been an excrutiating process to re-evaluate my present goals here in Romania vis-a-vis something potentially extraordinary in the U.S. when I previously have had no intention of returning to live in America in the foreseeable future.
Unfortunately for you, at the end of the day, when it’s all said in done, and the paradigms have shifted themselves into leveraging strategic relationships for cultivating extensible incentives, Romania will be stuck with Romer!can just a bit longer because as exciting as things may have been to consider I’ve decided to stay here.
I apologize to you, my last faithful reader.
But the least I can do to assauge your painful realization I’m still hanging around to wreak havoc in Romania is make it all up to you with a little storytelling and general bloggery, nu? Hai, sa mergem!

Welcome back, you have been missed :)
Sorry that you had health problems and I hope you’ll get well. I’m looking forward to read about “travel across parts of Romania” as I have a feeling that you have some stories to tell.
And I am surprised (but glad) that you chose to stay in Romania over the fabulous potentially extraordinary :))
Da drumul la povesti!

The Party must be desperate… ouch! Well, glad to have you back. Problema cu ouale este sfarsit? I’m shipping out myself soon and would look forward to a fare-thee-well drink or two in Buc.

Glad to hear your back and haven’t left us for the US and A, you’ve made the right choice for your selfish readers, a blog about Texas really wouldn’t have held people captive for long =)

I’d almost given you up for dead :P It’s good to hear (well, read) from you again.
You have been greatly missed, indeed, and as others have said, it’s good to have you back.

Romania seems to be an offer hard to say no to. Evident :)

Buddy, if it’s Austin, let me know when you make it here. I know the right place to take you and cure all these illnesses. :)

glad you’re finally feeling better….given all of the circumstances, i think your decision reflects your need to be (where you are)…your story in romania continues…all of the best and more!!

Thanks for the kind words, folks. It wasn’t an easy decision, but the fact is I am happy in Romania. Stay tuned; the adventures continue right after these messages from our sponsors…

March on!!!

I was thinking about you yesterday, while washing the dishes. Or was it Saturday… ? I had a feeling you were not ok. I was wrong. You are ok now. Take care of yourself. The world needs you. Or at least a person or two, I’m sure. All the best.

Maybe it was a slightly delayed sense, as I really did struggle with this choice until sudden clarity on Friday. Or perhaps Saturday, when I was hunting golani. Or perhaps yesterday when this decision revisited my mind for a doubtful time.
Ah, but we won’t explore how often those three letters appear in my head.

Don’t let thoughts betray you. You said you are happy. By comparison, you are lucky to even say that.

So…you rose from your deathbed just in time for the parade?
It’s nice to see your organs weren’t harvested by gypsy practisioners!
We were just discussing the fact that for the first time in over a year, we weren’t planning our next trip to the motherland…but when we do, well be sure to meet up in the big B! What ever happened with the egg situation anyway?
June 12th, 2007 at 12:18 pm
A deadly bed of roses, Ron. I think if I hadn’t had made the parade, a certain friend of mine might have gotten upset…. but, yes, I have eluded kidnapping by gypsy malcontents thus far!
I hope y’all are doing well and I’m really glad we met. As for the eggs, that situation seems to have died down ever since I was on the front page of Evenimentul Zilei (referring to the full-page, multi-photo article about yours truly) and my neighbors now think I’ve made them all famous.

I think you need to send me a copy of such photo…we can’t get them to mail to us here stateside…you know how the post “works” there!!!
June 13th, 2007 at 12:46 am
Back to America? How is that suppose to convince me to jump ship? Hahaha, I think you’ll probably be happier, you’d get back to America and remember just how entertaining and intelligent the mass populous of America really is.
June 18th, 2007 at 4:16 pm
Fleeing the coop?? Whatchoo talkin’ aboot, Willis?
I dunno, turning down a good job stateside, whatever it was, can’t be easy.
But trusting your instincts is probably the right thing. Not to mention all of us have a vested interest in the entertainment of a blog from Bucharest, rather than, say, Waco. ;-)
Skype me the details when you get a chance. Granted, I’ll be hard to find the next three weeks, as I’m fleeing the country at the end of this month for a job that trains me Stateside before regurgitating me elsewhere in the world. Moving sucks!!!
Mult noroc si sanatate la tot ce apuci! (Daca pot sa zic asa in romaneste-le al dracului strain…;-)
