E.T. Nicolae needs the darker shade on the upper half of the sunglasses, just like all his PDSR buddies from the mid 1990s. ;-)
Seriously - I never got over the sensation, when watching TV, that the entire upper strata of PDSR of that time was cast from a time-trapped Italian mafia of the 1970s. Just look at the sunglasses and the suits. You tell me!
And wouldn’t you know it, along the lines of posting yesterday, Nicolae, Doru Ioan, and Viorel, not to mention George Prisacaru, are all back for an early Halloween in April. :D

Great poster featuring the greatest poster-child of early 1990s Romania.
When I first saw the poster you’ve made, I wanted to suggest you change the vodka brand from “Stolichnaya” to “Stalinskaya”, as I considered the latter to be more appropriate.
But now I see you came up with an even better option: “Saniuta”.

frank - Hahaha… You’re right, I should think about adjusting the sunglasses. I’ve got to publish some more cards in the 2007 series because they’re coming to me quite quickly since the blog has taken a sudden political turn. BTW, shoot me if I don’t write you this weekend… I haven’t forgotten there’s much to discuss.
Musculin - Hai, sa bem! Noroc! Yeah, Saniuta escaped me during the first iteration, but I agree that Stalinskaya would have made an excellent choice. You’re too funny. And, hey! That post I spoke of has not yet appeared… you’ll be particularly interested in one that’s been on the backburner (but not for long).

The picture is a blatant distortion of historical truth. From what I remember, the original “saniuta” was using only the standard 1/2 liter Romanian communist bottle, usually the green and clear glass variants. The label was a piece of cheap paper (no fancy glossy paper). Using just green ink, on the label you could read only “Vodca” and beneath was a simple drawing of a winter sled and some snowflakes. Just like the cheap wine in 1 liter bottles known as “corabioara” (diminutive of “corabie”, meaning sailing ship), owning it’s name to the little drawing of a full rigged ship on the label, people started calling that vodka “saniuta” (diminutive of “sanie”, meaning winter sled) because of that little sled on the label.
