1000 police to assure order? Geez, I knew that Basescu was growing in unpopularity, but this seems a little much to protect PDisti. :-D

You’re not in Bucharest now, are you? I’m still catching up…and was surprised by all your Bucharest postings. :)

Btw, it only took me three hours, but I busted a gut laughing when I finally tracked down a cache of your former image regarding my US Airways post. I’d like to ask your permission to use it? It made my day… :D

Also – if you’re amenable to doing so, can you shoot me your e-mail? Every once in a while I have this urge to chat about blog site improvement, and I hate to clutter up your site comments for that purpose. So – you can reach me at (ignore the exclamation marks, take out the spaces, and replace the <a> with @):

    xxxxxxxxxxx@xxxxxxxxx.xxxxx

P.S. The big button on your sidebar asking for comments and suggestions might be a good way to fire up a mailto: link, or to a page with your reformatted e-mail as I tried to do above? Admittedly, I’m not sure how to filter the spambots through that method.

See how interesting life in Romania can be sometimes?

You’ve just moved to Bucharest and you’ve already got the chance to witness history in the making.

Meanwhile in the town you used to call home not long ago, another pro-Basescu rally has been mildly disrupted by an amateurish Molotov-cocktail throwing “anarchist”.

Sometimes the party gets more exciting right after you leave.

Hope you won’t miss today’s Constitution Square extravaganza.

Crap. There should be an @ before the earthlink part. Your site does funny things. :)

frank – Da, I’m in Bucuresti these days. I think the rally was quite a success (which is saying something since Romanians *never* seem to get deeply involved in their politics). I’ll get you that artwork by email and we can carry on a little conversation there that’s long overdue. If I’m a little slowish, forgive me as I’ve been very ill lately and am only starting to recover a bit. I’m glad to see you resurface after getting settled in.

Musculin – Ha! How is it you can continue to be consistently poignant? I love it. And you’re right; I’m all up in the mix now. I can’t believe there was black hoodie violence in sleepy little Brasov, though. Too bad I missed out; it could have been a Seattle WTO redux. Stayed tuned, big boy; I’ve got a post coming real soon that you‘re not gonna want to miss.

I managed to save the pic, so don’t worry about sending it. :-) I just figured you created it, hence I should ask your permission before posting or publishing it. ;-) It could be a good way to remind US Airways that I’m a persistent PITA. :D

And – I completely understand being ill. I got something beyond my usual sinusitis and it won’t go away…aggravated by all the plane travel of the last two weeks. :-7 So no need to apologize – just get yourself better!

If you want extra motivation to get better – I could tell you the story of my Bucharest hospital experience in 2000 that was all too reminiscent (prescient) of the recent film _Moartea d-lui Lazarescu_. Granted, I only made the rounds of three hospitals instead of four, but… ;-)

If I hear the word “oligarhi” once again, I am going to bust a gut, too.

frank – PITA factor can definitely count. Sorry to hear the altitude is nipping your nasal passages. I think it was the curent which nailed me. You definitely need to post a memorial of your Romanian hospital misadventure, because the very idea of needing medical attention in Romania *does* frighten me.

stingo – Unfortunately, there is very much an oligarhi contributing poison in the Romanian corpus.

    Mihnea – Hear, hear.

gabi – Thanks! I love the concept of the crowd through the flag; great idea. It’s clear you were on stage, so you had privileged vantage point. I’ll be posting my round-up of the rally shortly.

I still owe you an answer to your question: I practice a lot!!!

As for the post I wouldn’t want to miss, you were right – it is indeed a post not to be missed. I’ve recommended it to all my undecided friends who don’t know on whom they should place the bets.

I placed mine on those very few who uphold the principles of rule of Law, not necessarily the laws made today to be repealed tomorrow.
