how many tries do we get….lol

  2. fishvet Says:

My apologies, no conjectures regarding the above photo.

    BUT…

I’m an American (Texas) who will be living and working in Brasov for 2 months this year. I sat here for nearly 2 hours reading your blogs-yes, all of them. They have been the singlemost enlightening peek into what I can be sure to expect! So… multumesc.

I believe you have my email address from this post. If you should find yourself interested in bestowing upon me your helpful advice etc, I would be obliged to purchase the finest bere of your choice for you upon my arrival…

I sit in eager anticipation of your next post!

  3. Romer!can Says:

Shadow – Heh. As long as things don’t devolve into asshattery, I’m not opposed to multiple guess.

fishvet – Well, shit howdy, son; welcome to this here show! I reckon y’alls is gonna enjoy whilin’ away a spell in Brashoff. A fellah’s just gotta keep a keen eye on them there injuns over at Bar Western. Best to stay away from that mighty powerful trap, boy. I tell you what.

Thanks for reading. I’ll shoot you an email over the weekend and we’ll open negotiations. I’m particularly weak when someone slips a bottle or two of the good stuff into their luggage, because I cannot find bitter ales from microbreweries in Romania. (Heck, I’d happily settle for a Shiner or St. Arnold’s.) And if any of my mistakes can help you wind up having a better time in Brasov, then I’d be only too happy to pass along whatever knowledge I can.

  4. jon Says:

    Northern California…somewhere near Carmel???

  5. Namaw Says:

I believe this is the Brasov depression before it was drained by Ceausescu in the 70s.

  6. bradutz Says:

correction: “DE unde este”. :). Cheers

  7. RS Says:

Going to guess broadly…black sea somewhere?

  8. anna Says:

U ask where this is from?…ok…I think I may have an answer…i think this is a pic that u find it in an romanian apartment ….hanging on a wall in living room or bedroom…..am I right?=)

  9. Romer!can Says:

jon – An interesting guess! I must say it does look a bit like parts of Carmel coast.

Namaw – Bonusuri for making me laugh. Thirsty, anyone?

    bradutz – Doh!

RS – Living on a wing and a prayer, eh?

anna – Your cleverness earns you the first beer! The photo was taken inside a Romanian apartment. I’ll contact you by email and we’ll sort out the details.

Everyone else – Ah, such trickery. A second beer remains to be won! All that needs to happen now is to find out where the original scene is from (the coastal area in the photograph of the photograph).

  10. xamox Says:

Hahaha, you son of a bitch! I was wondering what the glare was from but I assumed it was a window.

  11. strudel Says:

How old is that pic? I thought I sought the young thin starving Nero Wolfe on the rocky beach of Montenegro, waiting for the vessel to take him to New York-

  12. Namaw Says:

If this image was found in Romania it might be related to Romania. But since we don’t have mountains near the sea it could be in southern Dobrogea that is now part of Bulgaria (they have mountains over there).

  13. Ada Says:

Nah, the water seems to be too blue for the Black Sea.

  14. bradutz Says:

    Crete..

  15. RS Says:

I was figuring the crimea or turkey or something, but as I’ve never been to the black sea…like you said, wing and a prayer. ;) Second guesses?

  16. Musculin Says:

    Baja California

  17. Romer!can Says:

Perhaps one can narrow down the possibilities by identifying which member of the Cupressaceae family we see in the foreground. Surely, between google and your neighborhood botanist, a beer awaits you!

  18. strudel Says:

The name of the site is -BEACH OF THE LAZY ROMERICAN-. I have to know from the Italian press that Dracula’s Castle is on sale for 60 million euro . Tsk tsk .

Romania: in vendita il castello del conte Dracula
Ma anche il prezzo è «da paura»: 60 milioni di euro

  19. mfa Says:

Since you are asking one would assume that the picture would relate to you in some way. Its probably North America, maybe the islands in Washington state… Somewhere close to Seattle.

    Maybe not. Who knows? :o)

  20. Musculin Says:

No, that’s definitely nowhere near Seattle – I’ve lived there, so I should know. I’m pretty sure it’s further south, probably Redwood National Park.

  21. Musculin Says:

    …or Monterey…

  22. Romer!can Says:

mfa – Great memory. However, there are no cypress trees in the San Juan Islands (despite one of them being erroneously named Cypress Island).

  23. American Friend Says:

    Is it North Cyprus?

  24. Ron Says:

the picture is from the Abruzzo region of eastern italy….as for “dracula’s” castle…it’s not for sale…it’s not in the best of shape for an open house…do some reading…maybe you will become informed

  25. JR Says:

Obviously its Spain or Turkey because thats Mediterranean

  26. mfa Says:

    Monterey?

  27. Romer!can Says:

Musculin & mfa – The water color could be right for Monterey. And Monterey does have some Cypress trees. Yet, look at those rock formations; I may not be a geologist, but that’s not Cali.

  28. mrs. S Says:

I am thinking it is some delightful and charming island near greece, where kind people feast on plump olives, and lots of cheese!

  29. Mihail Says:

That beautiful scene looks familiar – I say the Adriatic Coast in Croatia maybe outside of Dubrovnik. Drept? Bere e gustoasa, dar eu vreau o suta de grame de tuica!

  30. strudel Says:

    dear Sir Ron,

    a) blame the press not me .

The 15th-century tyrant – the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Count Dracula – is known to have resided at Bran Castle, near Brasov in Transylvania, as either pampered guest or shackled inmate, according to conflicting reports.

What is indisputable is that the imposing, 14th-century fortress-turned-museum has never baulked from cashing in on its association with bad lad Vlad, whose preferred mode of execution secured his place in history. Today, it is for sale at a spine-chilling £40 million.- (Telegraph) -

    b) Only a pervert maniac would pretend the pic is from Abruzzi (Italy).

    Regards

  31. Ron Says:

strudel..if you tend towards educating yourself by the press alone, you have no business spreading your ignorance…do some “real” reading and once again, you may become informed…as for the insult…..thanks….I for one am not about the mediocre…so you can love or hate my perverted maniacle ass…as long as your opinion is strong and decisive…having no knowledge of you or what personal traits you might carry through this life of yours…I choose not to insult you in return based on a few words in a blog…Strudel is crispy and golden brown on the inside, but ultimately is mushy and fruitty on the inside..and when cut open it just oozes all over the place…

  32. Ron Says:

correction: Strudel is crispy and golden brown on the outside

  33. Virgil Says:

Well, I’ve seen a scene like that in Turkey, and if it’s in Europe it must be the Mediterranean. Never been anywhere outside europe, but I’m sure you can find scenes like that in other places. But you’ve made me curious, can you send an email with where it’s from?
    I’m romanian btw

  34. strudel Says:

Sweet ladies and brave gentlemen of Romania, in the name of our common Roman ancerstors, can you tell me whether your fucking castle of Dracula is on sale or not? Indeed, I am looking for a proper location where to accomodate Sir Ron, for good and all.

  35. Romer!can Says:

Strudel / Ron – With respect to the fortress at Bran, you’re both more or less right. Basically, ownership of the property was dumped in the lap of someone who arguably does not deserve it. He is definitely trying to sell it (general point for Strudel) but is stuck in a (temporary) phase where Romania has first right of refusal before a sale (technical point for Ron).

As for the rest of it, you guys make me laugh. =]

Virgil – Welcome to the show! I think as soon as we have a clear pronouncement from a definite winner, then I can shoot you an email with the details. I won’t forget about it.

  36. Ron Says:

Hey, Thanks again L&S for the hospitality(and the tortilla lesson)….we’re sadly departing tomorrow morning for the big B…..then monday back to the states….I’ll make sure to return with your quarters in tote. I have to give you a chance to win them back..it’s only fair…I finally broke down and consumed my first bere din plasticla….surprisingly, it was almost as good as the tuborg winter brew…Thanks…I shared it with my fatherinlaw…accompanied of course by some of the strongest tuica I’ve ever had…
take care, and good luck with the move..

ps: with regards to the Dracula’s castle(and I’m sure you cringe to even see that name on your site), I was only trying to make the point that Bran was not his,nor was it ever…His resideince was north of corte de arges @ Poenari.

  37. Romer!can Says:

Ron, we had a great time with y’all. Hope to see you again next trip. Of course, this time I’m likely to have a different set of friends, so we can tell the same funny stories without fear. Heheh. Plus, next time, we’ll do italian food and wine. Glad you liked the beer; I found the taste of Cuic’s Winter Strong to be superior to Tuborg Christmas Brew, but they’re both quite good (especially for this part of the world).

And, yes, I do cringe at the mention of “Dracula’s Castle” because it’s such a bullshit name. Drives me nuts. Absolutely correct that Bran was never Vlad’s property. In fact, most scholars believe he was never there, even as a guest (only a handful of sensationalists promote that myth, as I understand it).

It is true, Strudel, that Vlad’s actual castle was in Poenari and it’s not for sale.

So, in the end, we’re looking at differences in understanding what “Dracula’s castle” really means. One’s marketing hooey, the other is lesser known truth.

But, still, the mudslinging was fun.

  38. strudel Says:

Mr. Rich Dream and his pale fiancee knock at the door.

    R. D. -Is this Dracula’s castle?
Realtor – You mean Prince Vlad, I presume.
R.D. – Uhmm, and what about the Vampires crying at midnight ?
Realtor – Nonsense. The doors need to be oiled.
R.D. – Uhmm, uhmmm, and what about the hot girls offering their shoulder to be sucked?
Realtor – Sillities. May be the cook’s old sister will need to be scratched her back somentimes.
R.D. – And what would be the price of this Drac.. ehr Vlad’s castle ?
Realtor – Above 60 million euro, sir.
R.D. – As for me you can make a potato warehouse out ot this boring house.

P.s. (you two be good and I’ll teach you to make pasta al pesto, which is great, delicious, light, easy and cheap).

  39. Alex Says:

I’m going to guess Portugal, I don’t know if thats a specific enough.

  40. emil Says:

judging by vegetation and the barren rocks, and the sea too blue to be the algae infested Black Sea shore: it cannot be in Romania; considered worthy of being put on a wall it means it is from a “glamorous” place, so the Bulgarian coast is out; you took the time to take a picture and post it so it is important to you for some reason (unless you really have nobody to hang out in Bucharest ) …

    … hmm …

my guess is somewhere on the Pacific coast of US, probably California ;) .

  41. Romer!can Says:

You’re right that I’m definitely interested in someone having the correct answer. I’d love to give away the big prize to someone who knows the place!

  42. ioana Says:

    i know, i know !!!!!! it’s Southern FRANCE !

  43. mfa Says:

    Goa?

  44. Ieftin Says:

My guess is the Costa Smeralda, Sardinia.
I’ve been to Alghero, which looks a lot like this, and the Costa Smeralda is supposed to be even more beautiful.

  45. Costy Says:

I think that image is from a picture(tablou)because it see the reflections in shadow …:D

  46. mihnea Says:

first thought when i saw this was “greece”

    *shrug*

  47. andrei Says:

Poate fi pe Catalina Island dar avand in vedere ca nu ai acces prea mult pe in

sula cred ca e pe coasta de vest sau poate Baja California ‘Mexico’.

Asa ca nu merit berea ca nu stiu exact

  48. Andy-romerican2 Says:

Acapulco-those trees are not from Europe for sure….send me a piece of mail-I’m moving to Bucharest in a month….from Chicago.

  49. george Says:

    Capo Vaticano-Calabria

  50. Rares Says:

the fun part would be to equalize the image in photoshop and find the name of the place watermarked :>

  51. Radu Says:

looks like this little village called Duino on Italy’s Adriatic coast by Trieste

  52. mfa Says:

Your relocation clearly affects the Terms and Conditions associated with this marvellous competition. You can’t leave without clearing the waters…

Where the heck is this place? :oO

  53. Romer!can Says:

Ah, but the contest has expired. Dare I just select the first person who came the closest? I’m feeling subjective…

  54. mfa Says:

Eh… We are all winners, aren’t we? :o)
