Fyurien – Welcome to the show, comrade! Care to share any details on where you’ll be parading around? Just curious if you’ll be in Bucuresti or somewhere in the countryside.
shadow – Thanks. Yes, I’m sure you’ll have a grand time! I’ll make sure you get sufficient palinca once you’re in my clutches.
Both actually. It will be almost 3 weeks, 1 of which will be spent outside of Bucuresti. Namely, Cluj, Bran, Sinaia si Sibiu. I’m actually contemplating purchasing a new cannon camera for the trip. Well see.
Sounds like a great trip. I’ve done the same thing before back when I was in tourist mode. If you’d like to keep in touch, we might get the chance to grab a beer in Bran. It’s about time I went back there.
No need to make awkward promises, at this juncture. It’ll depend on your itinerary and my schedule, but let’s keep the door open.
On Canon, which models are you looking at? The PowerShot family is brain-dead simple to make excellent looking shots. While Canon is certainly no slouch in the SLR department, I happen to prefer the Nikon output (but that’s changing as Nikon tweaks their settings to be a bit closer to Canon). The main consideration with SLR is that your investment in lenses will become the most precious (and expensive) asset. With Point-n-Shoot, it’s an easier choice to pick up something and be thrilled for 2 to 3 years.
Oddly enough I had a someone offer to be my guide throughout the trip around the country, but that kinda fell through. So for now I will be treking alone. Either way, I’m always up for a beer or tuica (the t should have a little squigly thing under it)
The Canon I had been thinking about was the 30D, but decided to wait a bit till PMA was done to see if the Canon 40D would be announced. I’m considering getting that and a lense that costs just about as much. Honestly, it sounds really great, till I think about how much it will probably cost. Then I have to ask if I would use it enough to get value out of it.
But you are correct, the lense is really the most important and possibly most expensive part. A friend has a Nikon and he loves it. A coworker recommended Pentax too.

Heh. There were supposed to be two of them (one for backup I guess), but they ran out of money.

CO – I’m not sure which is more heretical, the concept of a backup God or the notion of a church being out of money!
BQ – Danke schoen. We’re not so far away; maybe you’ll get time to take that trip. Brasov is a remarkable city (in my not so humble opinion).

Wohooo. I’m a Romerican too. Well more American than Romanian. Will be visiting in late March. Cant wait.

Beautiful! — Looks like the Tower To God (it looks very big/tall).
