I decided to give Vista a try and all I can say is “Wow!”

$349 is just the price for Vista. Of course, it won’t run properly on the computer I bought last year, although XP and Ubuntu both run just fine. So, I had to fork out another $2000 for the latest machine. After a long installation, Vista takes almost an entire gigabyte of harddrive space, Microsoft treats you like a disobedient teen, forcing you to check in with mommy and daddy before they let you use it. Funny, the Mac treats you with respect. And Ubuntu is total freedom. But Vista will actually disable your entire computer if you don’t show your papers, please, comrade. It took a couple hours to sort out why the nVidia drivers kept crashing. Once that worked, it's like a little kid tried to copy what the Mac has looked like for over six years, except all the huge icons and kludgy buttons are designed for my senile grandma’s cataracts. Most of the toolbars, properties, and settings are really dumbed down for idiots or just plain hidden which makes it hard for a smart person to change things. To run the Vista clock eats like 30% of the CPU power all by its self. Just to tell time. I put in a movie disc, sat through the FBI and Interpol lectures about going to prison if I dare to share the film with a friend, and noticed the main feature was very fuzzy. Why? Vista checks 30 times per second to see if your hardware is authorized to play movies at high quality. If not, it partially disables your screen. Spend another $1000 for a new display? What’s next, artificially lowered sound quality for playing music on unauthorized speakers? That's when I said, Wow! What a joke.

Visa wasn’t available until a few days after I bought this thing. I considered waiting so that I could have it. Now, I feel good about myself.

I have to agree with Brooker, but am also not going to downgrade to Vista.

(Youll notice lots of Mac users proving his point in the comments)

I find it silly to attack Mac users, per se. There’s a greater number of Windows apologists who strain their vocal chords and froth at the mouth in defense of the operating system.

It might be somewhatishly correct to say many Mac users are smug. I happen to think it’s for a reason. I use Mac, Windows, and Linux. Windows is the weakest of the three. But only in the last few years and only for the next many years.

After that, much of this may very well be a non-issue. *cue the sound of penguins*

You see that’s absolutely not my experience at all. The evangelicals I have encountered are all Mac users. Windows users tend to apologise rather than go on about it. (In my experience obviously)

  17. Romer!can Says:

While it could be said that the majority of Windows users buy and use the OS without any critical thinking, like so many cows chewing their cud because they see the other sheeple doing the same, there are -in raw numbers- a larger population of Windows freaks waxing endlessly about various benefits to be found in Microsoft products (of which, I definitely have agreed with some).

They’re just as high-pitched and haughty. Easily found in any flock of geek poseurs and occasionally found intermixed with ubergeeks. The most common points to flaunt revolve around game variety, Exchange, and familiarity.

I spent years playing devil’s advocate with a close friend of mine who is a Mac purist of the evangelical sort. Mostly, it was to piss him off with mindboggling logic. I enjoyed this nerdly behavior immensely.

But the fact is that I don’t care if Mac users are smug. That doesn’t affect me in the least. BMW drivers might be smug. Airplane pilots might be smug. Master divers might be smug. Leonardo Da Vinci was probably a smug prig.

Is the product better? I say that trying a Mac, exclusively, for 30-90 days will give your answer. It’s just most people are afraid to try anything new.

[…] But these are temporary times of new opportunity for Apple to gain marketshare while Microsoft’s horrid Vista product reveals itself to be the flop that it is. A moment in time where people, in larger numbers than previously, say to themselves, “you know, I should dump this Windows junk, but what is my alternative?” […]

  19. Bryan Says:

Ok for all who think that its so hard too upgrade and I can’t take pain once in a while we just buy a new PC from a Sam’s Club or somthing and get one with Windows Vista installed on it. Now if you don’t know how to use a Windows computer in the first place read the manuael if you dont feel like doing that well then you will get crappy results. If you have used windows before alot of the stuff that miss priss complained about can be fixed with two clicks. Windows Vista can be soo much better if you use it right and not think that its a child and think its retarded and needs help or i can’t change the most simple setting cause its not a apple. Get Vista and use it right or dont get it at all for all mac users that have seen Vista in a screenshot and have never used it for more than one day DONT COMMENT. For all mac users stick a cork in it.

Bryan: Meet my good friend. His name is Parody, and I don’t believe you’ve ever met.
