Hungarian discrimination

Ask an ethnic Hungarian from Transylvania and they’ll most likely tell you they are discriminated against as being ‘lesser than’ by their proper Hungarian peers. (Asking an ethnic Romanian about Hungarian discrimination is left as an exercise for the reader.)

Now, as fellow EU members, such discrimination is reaching new depths of absurdity. Recent undercover reporting exposes demands to obtain an animal health permit for sausage snacks in order to cross the border into Hungary.

Now isn’t this just great…there goes our cheap alternative of flying into Budapest when traveling to Sebes. I would be arrested for sure if those Magyars gave my wife and I a hard time!!!

  2. Romer!can Says:

Oh, don’t worry, they won’t give you any trouble trying to leave Hungary…

No…..but we have to go back to Budapest for the return flight….you see Bucharest seems to think they have the most luxurious aeroport in all of Europe…the taxes per passenger run an average of $275 each….while allmost all other airports are about $150 each or less….but no matter…this trip is so off season Bucharest is actually our better option….Maybe the European Union will make it better to Fly there..

I’m aware you may have already bought your tickets or be hindered by FF miles and all that… BUT… you know, Malev flies directly to Timisoara and also Targu Mures, which might be a good option for you to avoid the hassle of Bucuresti (whose miniature airport is smaller than the one Kona, Hawaii!!).

Malev had some discounted prices last year, though I’ve no idea what the going cost would be now. Still, it might be worth looking at, if you’re not locked in. A quick jump from Budapest to Timi/Mures.

Then again, you could always risk your life -literally- like some Romericans by flying Carpatica Air which will take you in a single-sputtering-prop, door-flapping, seat-belt-not-working, steward-laughing ride to the Walmart-parking-lot-sized airport in Sibiu. w00t!

Of course, I do hope you plan on staying just a little bit in Budapest. That is, without a doubt, my favorite ‘big city’ in all of Europe. Fantastic place.

Smaller than Kona??? Must be the size of San Luis Obispo airport!!

  6. Romer!can Says:

Yeah, it’s pretty small. I suppose it might have grown in the last year and I wouldn’t know it. But it’s definitely no sprawling traffic hub of the type we’re used to, by any stretch of the imagination.

Actually those SAABs are cutting edge technology, even now, 10 years after they are not made anymore. Turboprops are just a different kind of gas turbine engines, with a prop in front instead of a fan. It is more efficient this way. I prefer the baritone sound of a prop to the nasty high pitch whine of the fan. Also taking a turboprop means flying into the weather, which is definitely a more engaging experience ;)
Now, I cannot comment on the standards of Carpat Air, I have never travelled with them. Anyway, always be cautios when choosing a budget airline.
