On the eighth day of…

I was chatting with my friend Sam Maccabees about his plans for tonight. Although it’s a Saturday, he won’t be available to head out for a drink because he is going to visit his elderly grandmother with his wife and child.

Since they haven’t been to her apartment before, he had to ask for precise directions on how to find it. And his grandmother started rattling off the various details.

“You come to the front door of the apartment complex. I am in apartment 14T. There is a big panel at the door. With your elbow push button 14T. I will buzz you in.”

His bunica continued, “Come inside, the elevator is on the right. Use your elbow to hit the button and the elevator door will open up. Get inside and, with your elbow, hit 14. When you get there, use your elbow to open the elevator door. You’ll find my apartment immediately on your left. With your elbow, hit my doorbell.”

“Grandma, that sounds easy,” Sam replied, “but why am I hitting all these buttons with my elbow”?

“What, you’re coming empty handed?!”

Chag Sameach.
