Not long ago…

I woke up from a much-needed nap to a very loud and unusual noise. When I stumbled toward the window, a strong unnatural breeze was blowing. And what to my wondering eyes should appear?

Helicopter outside my apartment window in Brasov, Romania

The first helicopter I’ve seen in the entire country. And it was hovering just outside my apartment window! I thought would almost be able to touch it if the rotors didn’t scratch the paint of the building first.

It stayed there another minute or two as I tried a staring contest with the pilot. He won, when I suddenly had the presence of mind to locate my camera. I rushed around barefoot, nearly tripping on a power cord, and partially stubbing a toe.

As I stood near another window juggling my lenses to to capture the moment, he decided to bug out. Sadly, that caused me to immediately switch the lens again, so I barely got off one single shot as he rapidly zipped away.

Down in Texas, we know all about chem trails and black helicopters. So, which one of y’all ratted me out to the SRI for rendition?

Well the first one I saw was on DN1 and it had a radar on :D But this guy really came to get you! I am sure there is a mole somewhere in your ”
“entourage”…Did you try calling Jack Bauer? :D

At first glance this chopper seems safe enough but, if it were I in your place I would probably have been sweating bullets as I cradeled my AK as my back rested against a wall in my flat waiting for my demise.

Seriously! I’ve been there a few times only to watch that “chopper” fly away unharmful.

What a fun thing to have happen! It reminded me of the time when we lived in Bucharest and GW Bush was coming for a visit. We lived right next door to the US Ambassador’s Residence and I had one very tiny window open in our bedroom. The morning of Bush’s visit we had a knock on our door and some secret servicey-looking guys told us we had to close the window. So they came in and made sure it was locked shut. It was weird but truly memorable! Remember- someone is always watching us!

Sounds like the narcotics squad!!!!!!!!! Are you growing?

Mist1 - Such a quick denial is always suspicious.

Mrs. S - But haven’t they taken me away already!?

Alina - At first I thought you were making an American Football reference… heh. But when that didn’t make much sense for you to be doing that, I had to go look up this Jack fellow! When I see it’s Kiefer who played a vampire in the Lost Boys…. well, then I could see the connection to you.

I think you’re right about the mole, though. My archnemesis, Agent Dracula, surely has a subordinate infiltrate my inner circle. But which one is she?

John - I couldn’t claim to have flashbacks, but I can say that’s nearly how I felt for a minute there. My initial reaction was to think the SWAT team would be kicking down my door or something. They have been putting on media spectacles about efforts to crack down on music downloads lately…

Kim - Sounds like something straight out of movie, if you ask me. I bet y’all were a bit surprised by that (I mean, the direct contact and verification). What strikes me as odd is the notion that a locked window carries any security significance.

I admit it might seem to keep out a low-level threat. A guy could always just unlock it, however. Maybe, possibly, someone might notice that, perhaps. A guy could break the windows and, depending on the noise level of the environment, someone maybe might possibly recognize that.

But we’re talking about a US President. So, what about someone more sophisticated? Suction-cup glass cutter. 2 inch diameter hole for the muzzle. Done deal.

I know, I know… what else can they do? They’ve got to eliminate the easy stuff as best they can.

Shadowchase - You spent too much time mauka, haole. ;] My electrical bills are higher than most of my neighbors, but not outrageously so. Though, it has been fairly sun-shiney this year.

Psst… hey! Yo, check dis out. I gotz me some wicked dacia iarba on the ill tip. Whatchoo need, man? Whachoo need?

It’s a Eurocopter 155B, which, according to a random site found on google “is acknowledged to be one of the finest executive helicopter in the world. This is the most luxurious implementation of that marque.”

  9. Romerican Says:

Interesting! Glad you could identify the model.  We’re one step closer to unmasking the villain.

Now, I knew IAR (the helicopter company in Brasov) was now a subsidiary of Eurocopter, so I suppose it wouldn’t be outlandish to find one of their choppers buzzing around.

But outside my window? So, I’ve got a corporate stalker, eh? Maybe someone at Romtelecom is sending me a message… afterall, I have complained about outages in the past and they do know where I live.

Meanwhile, I randomly found a 1999 edition of the Eurocopter 155B apparently sells for somewhere around USD$6.5Million. Whoo, doggy!

Well, that “chopper” and SWAT team may just be comming for me soon enough? I’ve done some of my own “illegial downlading” here and there to be at the top of the “hit-list”. :)

But what can one do? I can only be who I am…what I was born as…right?

    Take it easy,

    John

Hey, I’m an American currently living in Iasi. I’m interested to know what you are doing in Romania. I’m only here short term, going back to the states in January. I am volunteering at an orphanage. Romania is a very interesting country, I’ve really enjoyed my time here so far. Please email me when you get a chance. Thanks
